Margarita graduated as MD from the Universidad de Barcelona in 1998. After specializing in Internal Medicine, she pursued an MSc in Tropical Medicine and International Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

She went on to work for 3 years in medical emergency relief in Asia and Africa and then joined the European Programme for Intervention Epidemiology Training (EPIET) at the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC).

During the 2 years fellowship, she was based at the Swedish Institute for Infectious Disease Control in Stockholm. After graduating, she worked for Medecins Sans Frontieres-Epicentre, first as Regional Epidemiologist in their research base in Niger and later as Director at the research base in Uganda. She joined P95 as epidemiologist in January 2013.
